“Life is light. You can make light do anything you want to. Photography means ‘light writing. ”

hotography, as L. Ron Hubbard was fond of pointing out, means “Light writing,” and given the way in which his photographs communicate, the phrase is an apt description of his work.
A keen student of the camera through his youth, his career effectively began in the late 1920s with a series of celebrated studies taken through the course of his travels in China. The work was squarely professional, and ultimately saw wide circulation in the National Geographic. Returning to the United States, he continued his photographic career as both a photo-journalist for local news papers and, on a freelance basis, for several national publications. Most notable among the latter was his work for the air enthusiast publication Sportsman Pilot.
